NCS MANHUNT
BBC
The National Crime Squad (NCS), an unconventional, highly skilled team of top
detectives, are back to combat serious and organised crime.
David Suchet returns as the enigmatic and obsessive Detective Inspector
Borne. He admits to being fascinated by the many layered character. "He's a very
troubled person, full of inner turmoil, and that is wonderful to play. He's such
a serious man. We have never once seen him laugh - and I don't suppose the
writer will ever let us!
"There's no fun in his life. In the past, he's been emotionally gutted, and now
he has zipped his emotional casing up tight. He can only unleash himself through
rage." David believes the enigma surrounding Borne makes him more
intriguing. "People want to know more about him, because, as yet, we have not been privy to
his home life."
But David feels great empathy with the character. "I find Borne a very sad
man. I want to hug him and say, 'Hey, there's a life out there, mate.' But he
wouldn't take kindly to that! Nobody feels at ease with his character - whether
it be criminals or colleagues. He's so irascible and carries a great burden of
life on his shoulders."
DS Maureen Picasso, played by Samantha Bond, and DS Ruby Sparks, played by
Melanie Hill, are part of Borne's elite team. Samantha reflects on what makes
Picasso so special. "I'd describe her as tough and intelligent, inventive and
quick-witted. I marvel at her resourcefulness." Melanie enjoys the caring aspect
of Sparks. "She takes people under her wing. She's a real mother hen."
Keith Barron also returns as Branch Commander Robert Beausoleil. Keith describes
Beausoleil as a complex character. "He's ruthless and doesn't suffer fools
gladly but, when he wants, he can be quite charming. He's quite elegant and
wears slightly gallant clothes. But at the same time he's a great one for cutting corners in order to get results. He's not above being devious and
deceitful."
NCS Manhunt returns for three, two-part stories set in London and the
Midlands. The first story sees the NCS investigate what appears to be a spate of contract
killings. The team lacks a clear avenue of inquiry until an informer leads them
to Jean Harris, played by ex-EastEnder Anita Dobson and menacing criminal George
Rolf, played by Steven Berkoff.
